Nigeria's Higher Education System

Nigeria's higher education system consists of a university sector and a non-university sector comprising polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education. The National Universities Commission (NUC) lists 43 federal universities, 48 state universities, and 79 private universities as accredited degree-granting institutions on its website. The largest part of students are enrolled with federal universities (68%), state universities (27%), while private universities account for only 5% of the total higher education student population.
